Impotent Darkness (Luke 1:57-80)

December 23, 2012 by Pito

Although Zecharias showed little faith when the angel told him of the conception of his son, God gave him a second chance. He does the same for us. We sin again and again and again and God forgives us again and again and again.  And when he does, like Zacharias, our mouths are opened and we praise and thank God for His blessing.

Like at creation, God’s plan moves from darkness to light. We find the beginning of the re-creation of all things in the Christmas story. Jesus, the bright an Morning Star, came at night to drive out the darkness that consumed the ancient world. The enchantment of evil was heavy upon them but the Light of the world arrived. Christmas morning finally came and the darkness fled. The Morning Star arrived and the darkness was impotent.

Peter tells us that the Morning Star has arisen in the hearts of Christians. Jesus has shined into our Adamic darkness and one day, when He reaches His zenith, millions will be confronted on the road to Damascus with a Christ brighter than the noonday sun.

We are the children of Light, the Light that has arisen and no amount of heathen darkness can do anything about it. We lived in darkness but we have seen a great Light. The Light was so powerful that it has been coming to the entire world even as it came to Galilee of the Gentiles.

Christ has arisen, Christians rejoice! Christ has ascended high into the eastern sky, you Christians, lift up your heads. Let us thank the Father for sending the Light into the world, for bringing Light to every man. May He be in us and we in Him that our shining will bring glory and honor and blessing to His Holy Name. Amen!
